You Are Enough.

Value. This is something I've never really thought about much until my therapy appointment yesterday. Intrinsic value: the value or worth of an object that is derived from itself. In other words, the value one finds within themself.
If you are anything like me, or the majority of other people, you might find that you value what others think of you. You might find your value in relationships, your job, your self-worth. As I was talking with my therapist yesterday, we were discussing what it is like for me to fail. I stated that if I fail at something, I think to myself, "I should have tried harder" or "what I didn't wasn't enough." I attached my intrinsic value to if I succeeded in whatever thing I was trying to succeed at.
This brings me back to a few days ago where I was "planting a flower" for our Connect St. Helens Campaign. We are putting up signs of hope, encouragement, and belonging around St. Helens. As I was pondering what I should say on my sign, I came up with "YOU ARE ENOUGH." Almost ironically, I needed this message to be blasted to myse
lf.
What I am doing is already enough because who I am has value just as I am. I may not have succeeded at whatever that thing I was trying to succeed at, but that does not define the value I hold in myself. I might have had a traumatic childhood, but that does not define if I am enough. I may not always be the perfect mom, partner, friend, companion, but I am enough.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't just hear this and make it work for me. I woke up at 3 AM this morning and kept reminding myself that I am valuable and I am enough even with the pain and struggles of my past. But I am working on it and I hope that I can remind you, that you are enough as well. You are more than your past. You are more than your present. You are more than your future. You are perfect and you are enough just as you are.
